OLD HICKORY

OLD HICKORY. During the WAR OF 1812, General Andrew Jackson's endurance and strength inspired his soldiers to give him the nickname "Old Hickory." He was affectionately known by this name among his friends and followers for the rest of his life. The nickname also featured prominently in Jackson's successful campaign for the presidency in 1828.
