Reader's Guide
CDs, Super Glue, and Salsa: How Everyday Products Are Made, Series 3, answers all the questions about the manufacturing of thirty products students use, see, hear about, or read about every day. From common items like ballpoint pens and DVD players, to the less-common, like gas masks and spacesuits, entries describe in vivid detail the whys and hows of the inventions, provide step-by-step descriptions of the manufacturing processes, and even offer predictions about product enhancements for the future.
CDs, Super Glue, and Salsa's photos, illustrations, and lively, fun-to-read language make it easy to understand the sometimes complicated processes involved in creating these everyday products. Use Series 3 along with Series 1 and Series 2 for a one-stop guide to the details behind ninety of today's most fascinating products.
Format
CDs, Super Glue, and Salsa entries are arranged alphabetically across two volumes. In each entry, students will learn the secrets behind the manufacture of a product through the details of its history, including who invented it and why; how it was developed and how it works; how and from what it is made; how the product might be used in the future; and a list of books, periodicals, and Web sites that offer additional information.
Entry subheads make it easy for students to scan entries for just the information they need. Entries include sections that feature the following information:
- Background of product, including details on its history or development
- Raw materials needed for production
- Design of product and how it works
- Manufacturing process
- Quality control
- Future products
- For More Information
Additional Features
The many sidebars present entertaining and interesting facts that pertain to each product. A glossary of product-specific terms runs in the margin of each entry defining difficult terms. The uses and manufacturing processes of each product are enlivened with ninety-four photos and fifty-five illustrations. Each volume includes a general subject index, including entries from Series 1 and Series 2, that provides easy access to entries by listing important terms, processes, materials, and people.
